My 25 week old black rock started to show signs that she was going to lay but then became poorly. She went off her food and her tail drooped and she started to pass something like cooked yolk. She is very underweight as she does not want to eat very much. Some days she is better than others and will eat. Is there any hope that the problem will resolve itself or should I finish her off? She does not seem to be in pain, but may be uncomfortable. Her comb is not very big and her face is pale. Could she be younger than I think?

If she is passing stuff that looks like cooked yolk every now and again, she may be an internal layer. In that case the only 'cure' is surgery to remove the egg-producing organs. (like a human hysterectomy)

Unless you are willing/able to find a vet that can do this surgery, the most humane thing would be to put her down.
