Is there any logic to this?

One day back in February when it was around 30 degrees the hens laid ten eggs out of seventeen hens, then a few days ago it was around 70 degrees and we got 5 eggs. What is the logic behind that?
 
umm..... chickens aren't from the planet Vulcan?
