Is there any way to shovel poo without getting it on you?

Here's my coop. Since it's above the ground, I simply take a shovel with a long handle and scrape the wood shavings/straw/poo into a wheelbarrow. I rarely get poo on myself.

I seem to be awfully lucky, poop-wise. I get it on me, intentionally, when I take it out of a couple of my bucket nest boxes with my hand. I need to make a scoop out of a plastic bottle I guess. As for the floor, I guess I'm using the deep-litter method, and when I figure it needs a changing I'll just go in and shovel it into a wheelbarrow and not get too poopy.

Build your coops BIG, folks!

You could get a really big shop vacuum, let the chicken poop dry, and suck it up with the vacuum. Of course, you might get the poo on you while emptying the shop vac...

Well, lah de dah! Aren't you (and your chickens) special! Bless your heart!

(Actually, that's pretty slick. I'm trying not to be jealous.)

Thanks, but I can't exactly take credit for it; my dad built it.

I just helped with the nesting boxes and added a window (not shown) for extra sunlight when the door's closed. I built an A-frame for my EE chicks to temporarily live in, though!
