I just bought a baby chick off craigslist and the seller told me the chick was either a buff Orpington or a buff Minorca and I was wondering is there any way to know which breed it is now or would I have to wait till it got older to tell by the way my chick is 2 weeks old.

Welcome to Backyard chickens, glad you joined the flock. If you wait till your chick is 6 weeks old, someone may be able to ID the breed, from good, clear pictures. Without seeing the chick I would guess it may be a Buff Orpington, which is much more common than a Minorca.

Do you have a brooder with heat lamp set up for the chick? 2 weeks old is quite young- a chick would need 85-90 degrees under the heat lamp. Also chickens are flock animals and do better with a few buddies - of same age and size. For now you can give the chick a small stuffed animal to cuddle with and a little mirror, so it thinks there is another chick with it.

Welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you joined us!
