Is There Anybody Else Here With Aspberger's Syndrome?

The school decided that they needed to collect more data before making a diagnosis. They said my son is on the cusp, which I agree with. We made a spreadsheet at home over the weekend to document his behavior and this morning was the first time to write on it. I'm frustrated because DH and I both attended the meeting, but DH just wouldn't stop prompting and nagging DS to hurry up. I finally had to step in which only increased the tension. I think this is going to be the hardest part of all....coming together!!! We had just had a discussion on how we could help one another, give a signal if one was losing patience. Already we're not working together it's only the first day!!!

It is part of the shock... It WILL get better.... My family did the same thing... Just take it slow... It is a shock to find our our "perfect" babies are not "perfect" after all.. It hits men hard... or at least my husband.. Just let him process....It will get better and the amazing thing about Aspy is it's abillity to forget... and forgive...

Just had my yearly review at work last week. Of course I get the 'You tend to be very focused and a hard worker. But you need to look more at the big picture.' And the ever popular ' You don't get along with people. You need to get more involved. I don't care if it is difficult. You are intelligent so it doesn't matter that you have Asperger's. That is just an excuse.' Grrrr. Yet another year of no raise and a boss who just doesn't get it. But he isn't willing to get rid of me. But in spite of everything I still think he is an okay boss. Just a bit slow when it comes to dealing with employees who aren't 'normal'.

Now it's my turn!!

I don't know why work has to be such a social event. I'm not an Aspie, but I never really wanted to get overly involved at work. I just wanted to go do my job, get along with everyone, and leave my work at work. Do people really enjoy office parties???

I'm afraid he'd be telling me the same thing!! Sorry that his shortsightedness means you won't get a raise.

Have you tried giving him a book on Asperger's? I think a lot of people THINK they know what it is, but in reality they have limited knowledge. Maybe it would open his eyes and he'd see what strides you've already made.

Has anyone watched the show "Doc Martin" ? It's on British t.v., we've been netflixing it. I don't know if the Doc has Asperger's or not, but I imagine that there are similarities. Of course, it's television, so there is extremism. If you watch it start with the first series since there is a story line to follow.

I've offered him a couple books to read. And he is reading 'Animal in Translation' by Temple Grandin right now. But that is only because the USDA vet who did my company's yearly inspection recommended it. Granted the book has more autism references but most everything the author writes about regarding autism pretty much describes what I think. But I doubt my boss will really understand what she is trying to say. And I even gave him the name and number of a person from the Asperger Association of New England who was more than willing to talk to him about how the syndrome affects people. But he wasn't interested. He said he had learned everything he needed when he listened to some talk on NPR radio.

Let's just say our HR department doesn't seem to have too many capable people. Or even one. They are in another state so it is hard to really talk to them. And twice in the past year I have received two highly confidential emails about another employeethat I shouldn't have received. All from HR. After the first time you would have thought they would have taken steps for it to never happen again.
