Is there anyone that likes hybrids?

Import chicks or eggs, straight from China.. then breed them. My friend will be selling F2 and F3 chicks this year, maybe eggs for the right price... I can let him know if anyone is interested.

ok well i guess yall have made me go "nonhybrids"
and i got a yearling yellow golden male about a year ago and it turned out to be a yellow with a little bit of i guess lady amherst.....
it has slight green scales on its chest and instead of a dotted tail its striped....so it kinda stinks....

And that is why "crosses" are so bad.. some birds may not even exhibit those traits, so you NEVER know. The only way to get pure goldens of any sort is to either import them yourself or get them from a trusted friend that imported his..

"HYBRIDS" on the other hand are infertile and therefore incapable of producing more problems for the industry..

So... I saw how much it would cost to get my hands on some F1 birds...

... I think I'll have to settle for what I have... lol

But... if I breed my "pure" birds will I be able to tell if they are truely pure or crossed by their offspring??

Haha.. F2's are significantly cheaper..

If the breeders do not appear mixed, odds are you will never know.. but you can sure assume!
One or two may get the odd feather here or there that would indicate it though..

Well.. I'm not sure about my male though... he looks nice enough, but in another post, someone pointed out that his tail feathers dont have the distinct stripes it should have... is that something to be worried about?? His is a more mottled pattern...

I was at a big animal auction the other day and they sold several ornamentals. The pair of "amhersts" they sold were definately crosses as they looked more like reds with a white cape. They brought very high prices in my opinion for crosses but then a lot of people not in the know probably didn't realize they were not pure. Unfortunately the buyer will probably breed them and continue selling them as amhersts.

@ mossfamilyfarm, yours have been crossed with red goldens somewhere down the line. Here are a few pictures of mine. You can see a difference in the tail. It's harder to tell impurities in a amherst than it is with a red golden. These birds came out of very trusted stock and are f2's, I usually sell them at $100/pair. Im trying to get some of the red goldens off of my friend, they are just amazing.

Very nice!! I gave 75$ for my pair (they are pure, but the F" " is unknown. I think 100$ isn't too shabby for F3's!
