Grass clippings, straw, shredded paper, pine shavings, it appears that my girls will eat anything that I put down in their run/coop. They have a constant supply of food and water, yet they insist on munching. I just put a nice pumpkin in the run so they have "treats."

Mine will try anything once, twice if they like it.

My 14 week old SILKIES ARE TOO MUCH.They will try something if my lead SILKIE and close bud try it first. This morning with their usual Chinese Cabbage I added leftover green cooked peas. Pele' my lead Silkie pushed the peas aside leaving them in bowl,no one else touched them, being careful to not pick any up in their cabbage frenzy. At the end of their feeding I usually hand feed them their food as they do not like to put head in bowl, which is not deep ,they run over to me while inside their runs and squawk like heck for me to assit the"ladies". I have to chop the cabbage small in my palm or they take and throw it as rejects. The peas in my palm , they tried to ignore in hand as well. I kept them in my palm and reoffered each time until Pele's bud decided she would try one . After a couple throws she ate one probably by accident..lol. The others tried ,threw them down. I squashed them, a few eventually ate them but not with such excitement as cabbage creates. Pele' still rejected them getting angry actually when they remained in my palm.
They are a constant joy and worry to me and I just love them. I never realised they each would be so personable yet flock like................Love those SILKIES!

Mine won't eat fava bean plants. I planted a whole run of fava beans last fall intending that the chickens should graze them down before it was spring planting time. All they did was trample them down.

Mine flock won't eat vege peelings unless I cook them first

and they don't like citrus fruit, but other than that they'll eat anything!!

The only thing I make sure not to feed them is Chicken!!
