Is there Chicken Stud Service?

You CAN AI your hens!

Go to a chicken farmer or 4H or college, they will be more than happy to let you know how it is done.

There are several links for AI from roos to hen on YouTube. Wonderful information.

I've collected from horses but I can't image trying to collect from a rooster.

I have done AI in lab animals. Right now I don't have a healthy rooster, and really don't want a new one at this point. I am investing in Silkies as Broody Mamas, and don't want an incubator.

Say if one were to borrow or temporarily obtain a Roo and introduced him to your hens. How long before nature would kick in and the Roo would fertilize your hens? How much of an adjustment period would there be? Also, at what age does a Roo become able to 'fertilize'?

It really depends on the hens and rooster. I shipped one in for a breeding project and it was 10 months before I saw a single fertile egg

Sometimes it can happen quickly. The hens can be bossy towards a new rooster or accept him right away. Roosters generally seem to start trying to mate between 12 and 18 weeks, but there is no rule to this either.
