It's been a challenging time. Home made incubator with heat lamp most eggs fertile a number started life and didn't go any further. The incubator i have ordered wont arrive until its all over. I have been given a lend of an incubator from a stranger. We dont know each other at all. Very nice Samaritan. The incubator has steady heat but unfortunately to find the turner does no longer work and no humidity guage. I've ordered another guage the one I just recently bought, broke. The turning of the eggs ill do manually myself. So, I dont know if I will lose anymore. I really hope not.

I think you're making the best situation you can here. That sure was nice of them to borrow you theirs, though it's being a pain. You'd have had to turn them anyway in your homemade one, so that's a wash. The last week you wouldn't have to worry about turning. The humidity should be okay until you get your new hygrometer.

I wish you the best!

Thank you for your input. Our of 9 eggs left, 2 dont look fertile, 5 look like maybe something is happening and the other two, they both have a active chick growing inside. The other three eggs had died. 12 eggs 9 left with maybe 6 but 2 very promising. Thanks for mentioning not turning in last week, I thought it was in the last couple of days due. I have so much to learn im like a first time mum. Google has become handy but there is nothing that speaks louder that human support

You're very welcome!

You'll read that the turning should stop when you do "lockdown" and that for most is Day 18, or three days before due date.

I always do a four or five-day lockdown, as a couple of times these silkies have hatched as early as Day 18, so I don't take chances.

The last week of turning is the least important because they are larger inside the egg now, and more mobile, so they can't get stuck to the shell.

Hopefully, you get a couple chicks at least! Otherwise, I'll be excited for you to get your new incubator and hear how that goes! Please tag me or send a DM in case I miss it!
