Is there such a thing as worms in eggs?????

I dropped one of silkie eggs today and there was not one, but two white worm looking string things in it. They weren't moving or anything, but they were really close to the yolk. I just haven't ever seen anything like it before. Any info would be great.

According to "Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens," worms in eggs are extremely rare, but occur in hens with a high parasite load. If you can see the same kind of white, hair-like worms in fresh chicken poo, you need to worm your chickens.

yeah, they are white, stringy, springy looking things that hold a yolk in place inside the egg. Could those have been mistaken for "worms"?

frankly it sounds to me more like the chalazae - two whitish, somewhat squiggly curly things at either end of the yolk, that keep it from sloshing around too much in the egg.

They are more conspicuous in some eggs than in others.

They have a sort of cloudy milky look, as opposed to a worm would look like LITERALLY a spaghetti noodle type deal, absolutely distinct and contiguous, not at all filmy or splotchy. A google for pix might help.

Worms can occur in eggs, but are rare (and usually sign of a SERIOUS infestation)
