Is there such thing as a laying schedule?

I have 9 hens and two roos. Four of them have been laying for a month. Now i've got two more that started this week. Not that its a problem, but I get eggs all hours of the day. Some days I get three and yesterday I got six. Its very erratic. I never know when theyll lay and how many will lay. Don't most hens lay every day for most part? Mine seem to lay a couple, take a day off, lay one, take a day off, etc. i've searched the run and coop for stashes but I never find any. Will they ever be consistent ? (is that even possible for a chicken?)

I heard that it takes minimum 25 hours to make an egg. so even if bird produces almost daily the time will slip back each day. They will not la within 2 hours of time to go back into the coop. thus you get less eggs in the winter when days are shorter.

Unfortunately I only have one laying so far so how true this is I don't know. If it is true.. eggs will be arriving throughout the day.
