I don't have a lot of experience, but I have a 7 wk. old RIR who does not have the large red comb and wattles that yours does. I'm guessing that yours is a roo!

It looks like a "production red" as opposed to pure RIR.

I'm definitely no expert but here's my two cents worth: I have two Road island Red baby chicks and I read that the hens can (may or may not) end up with a comb and waddle. Look at the picture of the Road Island Red hen on the BackYardChickens Breeds page.
I read that you can only know that its a rooster if it begins crowing, which I think starts pretty young. So if you're wanting just hens, don't give up on the girl/boy just yet--unless its crowing!
