A friend of mine gave me a chick,(one that had survived out of three). She got them at our grange co-op... she wasn't sure if it was the Australorp, or marans chick that survived, at the time she gave it to me, so i've been waiting to see if the feathers change to that 'barring pattern' and I just realized she is 3 weeks old and should have some bars coming in if she were an cuckoo marans ??? So.....
I'm thinking she's an Australop (hoping) :)

she has dark slate grey legs with pinkish soles .... any guesses at this age? or do i still need to wait :)

Looks like an Australorp to me. Cuckoo Marans would show barring by now.
I have one of each Cuckoo Marans and Australorp at 4 weeks old, and both are still solid black-backed with white around face. One has far more/brighter white around face with dark mascara, a white belly and black around vent with a couple larger white under-wing feathers and pinker toes, but darker legs. The other is darker everywhere.
So which is which?
