Hey all! I’m 8 days into an incubation of some backyard blends, and I want your opinion!

This is an egg from one of my cuckoo marans, so the shell is thick, pretty dark, and difficult to see into… is this a blood ring? You can still clearly see the eye of the fetus… Do you think it’s still viable?

I hope not, because I’d love for this cross to hatch(cuckoo hen+BCM roo), but it’s really hard to see. Should I leave it in and decide in a few days? I just don’t want it to explode in the incubator 🤢 I had some early quitters on shipped eggs in my incubation last spring that didn’t get pulled until day 18 and they didn’t explode, but it’s not a bridge I want to cross 😂

Not to my eyes from those photos. A growing chick with air cell on left end.

A blood ring looks like a big bullseye or a dark ring circling the circumference of the egg.

I'll post an article that shows a good bloodring and you can compare to what you are actually seeing in person.
