Is this a chick? If so, advice appreciated!

lol it does look very similar. Dont imagine the care would be much different though. I believe there is a pheasant forum on here that would not hurt to check out.

Thanks I'll check it out definitely - we figured that the care at this point would probably be very similar! We found a nature reserve nearby that we might be able to take it to tomorrow, fingers crossed!

Just a note to say thanks all for your help. We think it is a pheasant chick, but have pretty much been doing the same as we would for a chicken chick! It's in fine fettle this morning and loves some company, but we're on the case of trying to contact some reasonably local wildlife reserves/sanctuaries. I really appreciate everyone's advice though!

Keep her warm and keep us updated!! She is soooo sweet!!

how cute!!! It is a pheseant chick, not a chicken chick for sure I would bet on that. She looks sweet!!! If you have a smaller stuffed animal it might be worth it to put in the box with her, she would snuggle with it at night. We did that with a baby duck we had until the second duckling came along it was adorable and they didnt poo on it either like I thought lol! Guess you dont poo on mum

You'll need game feed for it, and put marbles in it's water so it doesn't fall in and drown.
If you can't get game feed give it chick feed and small amounts of boiled egg.

I just received a mixed layer order from McMurray, and I have about six of those chicks. Being a newbie I have no idea what kind of layer it is, but it is a pullet layer of some type. It is not a pheasant.

It looks a lot like that pheasant chick to me - and considering they roam wild, it seems that's more likely than a chicken chick. As others have said, keeping it warm is probably the most important thing. You probably don't need a heat lamp, a simple desk lamp with a 75w bulb or even a hot water bottle wrapped in paper towels will go a long way towards keeping the little peeper cozy.

Please let us know what happens with it! It's adorable, whatever it is.
