Is this a cockerel purring?

If I was outside on a dark night and heard this sound coming from somewhere beneath me, I think I would go instantly bald. I have a rooster, but his "come hither, I'm cozy, you can be too" sound is more of a squeal that gradually loses air, like a tire going flat. I'm glad your guy is happy, and if he can't properly get along with his dad, maybe he could get a job doing sound effects for the next Jurrassic Park movie

My past experience is that this is a comfort/cosy noise. I raised a roo that would snuggle into my sweatshirts (like they do into mom's feathers) and kinda "purr" like this. There's a higher pitched version I've also heard at bedtime in general, unsure if just different individuals use a different pitch for the same meaning or if they are separate entirely.

yep- Ive heard my roo do this when he gets cozy in a corner or in a box that i have set up for the hens- I think its a pleasure sound?
Oh that’s good to know - it’s so much deeper than when the hens do it, so I wasn’t sure! I guess he’s being manly 😂

My rooster makes that noise from contentment of his surroundings but this is after he finds a new nest site for the hens.
Oh maybe he was trying to tell the girls he found a good spot on his side of the fence! He doesn’t make the best choices as far as I can see 😂

Good to know - the hens do a very distinct bedtime noise that’s higher pitched, this just sounded so deep coming in through the window 😂

Well it was a bit shocking hearing that coming in through the window 😂😂😂 and if it had been dark I’d have been running the other way 😂😂😂. I know exactly the noise you mean, the dad does it a lot and a tire going flat is the perfect description 😂. Off to prep his résumé for Hollywood 😂
