Is this a drake?

Hello,

I'm a fairly new duck owner and new to BYC. I adopted a Pekin duckling, JJ, who is now 16 weeks old.

JJ sounds more like a drake with a hoarse "quack", honestly reminds me a frog croaking sometimes but no drake feather. This evening I noticed two feathers sticking upwards but not curling, they weren't there yesterday (I've been checking daily, we were hoping JJ would be a hen so we could have eggs).

Are these feathers just out of place or the beginning of JJ's drake feathers?

Via the description he seems to be a drake. Do you have a video of him? Specifically of the sounds he makes?

Congrats with JJ! A picture of the feathers would help to identify if they are drake feathers or not. I’d say that if JJ has a hoarse quack then it’s probably a drake. It’s hard to guess without a picture of the feathers or video of JJ quacking... Even then guesses aren’t always 100%, I had one that darn near honked like a girl but instead turned out to be a drake.

I’d say that those look to be early drake feathers. Again, it’s hard to guess without being physically beside the duck and even then it’s not always 100%. JJ is very cute! Seems like JJ might be a male but I could be wrong.
