I'm starting a flock for the first time, and just moved 5 week old chicks outside. This includes the introduction of a new waterer that is significantly deeper than the chick waterer. I've also seen a few copperheads in the last few weeks on the property. I can't seem to find pictures of drown chicks or chicks that the snake gave up on trying to eat. The reason I'm not sure is there is blood on one leg and I did find a big enough entrance for a snake to enter in the back of the shed converted to a coop. Happened during the daytime, no snake marks on the dirt floor. Chick found 6 feet from new waterer.

Best guess?

Snake, most likely.
