Is this a dud hen?

There are only two colors for eggs shells. Blue egg shells are blue inside and out. White egg shells are white inside and out. Brown eggs are white eggs with a brown coating. They are brown outside, but white on the inside. Green eggs are really blue eggs with a brown coating on the outside making them look green. Different brown 'coating' genes affect how much coating gets applied creating the different shades of brown and green eggs.

They are known for the egg color not for being a good layer, don't know if you have a purebred or an EE, but both are inconsistent layers, and it also depends on who and what they being bred for, show birds lay less, hatchery birds aren't as pretty.

Have you tried confining her to the coop for a while? The free ranging makes me wonder if she's hiding eggs somewhere.

Yes I had them all confined to their yard for a while. Buffs laid in nesting box, Ameraucana nothing...
I think I'll wait her out til next spring; if spring and the better chicken house won't kick start her... Then I'm sure she will be yummy...

I have an Easter Egger that laid for 2 weeks, then stopped completely. It's been over a month of confinement to the run, and she still hasn't laid. She is easily spooked and stressed, so I figure she's just too sensitive to be a regular layer.
