Is this a fault?

This is Harold, my Black Tailed Buff Japanese rooster:

He has about 2 1/2 white feathers in his tail. Will he be marked down when we show next year? I figured he would, after all, they are called Black Tailed Buff. Just curious...

Your rooster is pretty, but I do not know anything about showing. Probably will be marked down for it though.

Good luck

That is a slight fault, not too major, the only other thing I can see that I know if off the top of my head is that his stance isn't the best.

How old is he?

Here is a description I found for his color online:

Male and female plumage: Body feathers buff, wing primaries and secondaries should have buff outer and black inner webs, the closed wings look almost buff. Main tail feathers black. Main sickles and side hangers black or black with buff edges. In both sexes: Eyes red. Legs yellow.

Here is a pic I found online...just imagine the white is buff instead and that is how he should look like.

Good job Urban Coyote!

Only thing I can add, is that he has the wrong stance...if you're wanting good Japanese birds...don't bother with him. I'm sure he's a sweety, but in real competition, he won't stand a chance.

Might be okay for a 4-H fair, but not a sanctioned show. He might get Best of Breed at a sanctioned show if he was the only japanese there, but that white would take points off of him and his legs are way to long. He should look like he has no legs at all, like the black tailed white pic posted. That bird is not sitting, its legs are really that short.

Your bird has more going on then just feather color. He does have long legs. So he would not be show quality.
Here is my Jap roo. He is not a recognized color but has the legs and tail carriage that is desired in a show bird.
