Is this a good deal? Please advise.

I have definitely seen BCM eggs go for $150. You know, prices reflect what the market will bear. Does that mean the eggs are WORTH $150? That's something that each person has to judge individually.

As I think someone mentioned, a chick is probably worth twice as much as an egg -- because a 50% hatch rate is pretty good for shipped eggs, and especially for Marans eggs. If these are really good birds and eggs I *might* be willing to pay $10 each, but I'd for sure want to see the chicks and pics of the eggs before I committed to them.

The real question is can you afford them? Do you have room? Are you going to breed them? Why? You gonna sell the eggs/chicks? If not I'd get a breed that's a little cheaper.

At first I thought CM's where rare and I just paid $10 a chick, cause no one in Syr. seem to have any and I drove 5 hours round trip to get them. They aren't laying yet so I don't know whether they are any better than the ones I got from Ideal. We'll see.

I got some of my cochins from Thom Dean. He has gorgeous birds, and I'd recommend him highly. Can't speak for the craigslist seller, but doesn't sound like too bad of a deal. If it cuts out the stress and price of shipping- I'm willing to pay more for what I want.

Heck with the chicks! I would find out who has the adult flock and purchase them instead...

This late in summer chicks are not selling for much... Other than a few people on forums that are willing to shell out that kind of money...
His chances are slim of getting them sold! Offer him 5 a piece for the chicks and see what happens...

We paid more per chick than that so for me it would be a deal... it would be nice to get them for free but he at least sounded honest. I do not think you can buy an adult flock of good egg quality for that price if so then purchase the adults. The marans we have are just now laying and they are 11 months old...and are on the best feed money can purchase.

Generally BCM chicks go for around $10-$15 or so per chick. I would make him an offer. He propably paid around $75.00 for those eggs including shipping, so really not a bad deal considering they are hatched and ready to go.

You do need to familiarize yourself with the breed before you buy so you know what to look for.

Jesse Bryant (Black Copper KING) on this site was selling his day-olds for around $8.00 each just before he gave up his flock to another member for health reasons.

He had documented credentials connecting his flock to Wade Jean and Grisham lines.

So what you have here is not a good deal nor is it a bad deal.
Say you will give $100.00 for the 11 chicks and he should accept. That is a fair deal for both of you.

I am not sure who brought this thread back up. I posted it a long time ago. The chicks are long gone. I appreciate all the responses I got. Look at the original date when I posted this thread and you will see why it is over.
Thanks.
