Haha...no idea. My silkie too wasn't that festive looking, but MAN did he love to crow!

My wife is far better than I am, but from what she's taught me on sexing so far, I'd say a roo. His posture is very upright, he has a longer extended neck, and his legs hold him up farther off the ground.

I am no expert but I would guess rooster and agree with demosthine. It's feathers around its head and tail are also quite shiny which I think also I dictated rooster! Pretty bird! :)

So everybody's thinking rooster? That's what I was starting to think due to his size compared to one of our silkie hens but I wasn't sure....
Also, Kev you said something about pea comb and normal skinned? I know they're supposed to have walnut combs and black skin but what did you mean by "big faults?" I mean its still a silkie, right? Thanks again everyone

He's a he. He's also got very bad genetics (faults). He'll probably make a great pet, but I wouldn't encourage breeding him.

Black skin is one of the major defining features of a silkie. To not have that is like showing a bird with normal feathers as a 'Silkie'.

pea comb is a fault but not as bad as not having black skin(or normal feathers, ha).

Birds like this are relatively common from hatchery stock where quantity matters much more than quality. They'd never do well in a show but are perfectly fine as pets or yard ornaments.

Ok well I'm selling him anyway I already have prettier looking roos that I want to keep. But thanks for explaining that! P.S.- yup it's definitely a roo just started crowing for the first time about an hour or so ago! Haha
