Yes, it's a Louse. Good photos!I found at least three on me after picking up a hen. I did not see any on her, but then again I wasn’t actively looking for them. I have been itching ever since holding her, too.
Ok, thank you! My family will not like to hear this....Yes, it's a Louse. Good photos!
TSC carries Permethrin based poultry dust. I put the dust in a sock, then use that like a powder puff, tap it on the feathers to release a fine dust, work that through the feathers all the way to the skin. I keep the sock in a jar with tight fitting lid, label the jar so you know what it is.
For the coop, I use Permethrin10 concentrate, mix according to the directions. Spray your coop, nesting boxes, roosting bars, etc.
Repeat in 7 day intervals to help kill any that hatch.
Poultry Louse/Lice may irritate you, but they cannot survive on humans, launder your clothes and take a shower.
I don't, I just wait for a nice day when the hens and roosters are out of the coop, the spray dries pretty quick. The spray can be used on the birds themselves; I just prefer the dust since I can control it much better by using the sock.Ok, thank you! My family will not like to hear this....
I read you have to evacuate the whole flock during the extermination process...or was that for mites?

I also have a broody duck with eggs due to hatch in a few days; what should I do about her? I don’t know if the ducks also have lice, but I was planning on treating everyone to be on the safe side.I don't, I just wait for a nice day when the hens and roosters are out of the coop, the spray dries pretty quick. I don't know a lot about Ducks, I think that external parasites can affect them as well. Let's ask @Miss Lydia @shawluvsbirdsI also have a broody duck with eggs due to hatch in a few days; what should I do about her? They free range together and they go into each other's pens.I don't know a lot about Ducks, I think that external parasites can affect them as well. Let's ask @Miss Lydia @shawluvsbirds
Do your ducks interact with the chickens?
They can get them.. it's just less likley if they are bathing regularly as ducks do.I also have a broody duck with eggs due to hatch in a few days; what should I do about her? I don’t know if the ducks also have lice, but I was planning on treating everyone to be on the safe side.
