Hi all,

I have two silkies, from different places, both came to me as 1 week old chicks and they have 1.5 week difference in age, the white one is older.
The darker one is smaller and I thought it was because the age difference but now they are almost 4.5 month old so I assume they’re full size and this one is a mini chicken 🙂

But I have also noticed that the white sounds like a chicken and the darker one makes a completely different sound, not really a rooster (yet) but doesn’t sound like chicken either 😂

Do you think it’s rooster after all?

Well, I can assure you it is a chicken lol. If these are your first chickens... they make a wide array of sounds. You'll actually pick up on some of them pretty quick- like the "oh my gosh we're all about to get eaten" squawk. There's also the "I'm really enjoying eating this pile of food right here" mini-clucks.

Silkies are tough to tell the sex and almost always sold as straight-run. Your gray one should be old enough to be sexed by silkie lovers... I am terrible with my silkies I don't know until they crow. I can sex all my standard feather birds like a champ though.

As for size- silkies have a wide range of sizes. They're all "small" compared to standard size chickens, but there are some silkies that are close to a small standard- then there are true bantams which are really small. It's totally normal and common for your white one to be quite a bit bigger than your gray.

I also like your snub-nosed buff doggington chicken there. It's also a bantam.
