Is this a mutt?

My daughter says she'd like to show this one at the fair with our 4H club this year, but we are afraid its just a mutt.

Do you know its parentage? What it is supposed to be?

Actually no, that's the problem. It was just part of a brood from my neighbor's range hens.

and she lays a fairly small, light brown/tan egg

I would say mutt - Is her tail and the base of her wing feathers black? Because with that egg color, the color of the feet, and the random black on the tail and wing feathers, I'd certainly say some sort of mutt.
