Is this a NJ giant or something else? She's almost ten pounds!

She has that gorgeous oil on water sheen to her feathers. I got her at a live poultry market where she would have been dinner, ten to a tiny cage, she's in heaven in my yard free-ranging.

Looks like one to me. If the bottoms of her feet are yellow then she is a Jersey Giant. That's the easiest way to tell. If they're are pink, then she's an Australorp.

They are Black Australorps. Giants have dark brown eyes and the bottoms of their feet are yellow. Australorps have the golden eyes.

They are very gentle and great layers...you are going to be very happy with your girl.

Not all Lorps have golden eyes: most, if not all of mine have black/dark brown eyes, and I'm %100 sure that at least most of them are Australorps.

I would say that she's probably a Australorp, but she could be a cross.....thank you for saving her from being eaten!!

The Black Aussie should have dark brown eyes, which look like doll eyes to me. They are not light like the one pictured. However, there are defects in all breeds, so who knows. I would look at the bottom of the feet and see what color they are. The bird looks a little big to be an australorp to me, which are only 6-7 lb at standard. Black Java can be pretty large too.
