Thats a good post on lavender. I'd post that everytime someone has issues with the color. I actually saved if for myself incase someone asks me. Much easier than going through a long speach!!

Have you heard of the term "breaking lavender"? I have heard that the lavender gene in a black silkie can cause some off color. I purchased a pullet that originated from Mihalik (as a chick) from another breeder because she exhibited some brown feathers. Other than the off color, she is quite a nice bird. Knowing that he experiments quite a bit with color and has been working with lavenders, I was told that her brown coloration could be 'breaking lavender'?
