Just found my Azure hiding out in the coop like this. Blood in the nesting box. Standing but doesn’t want to move much. She was fine this morning. Currently sitting in an epsom salt bath. If it is prolapse, what do I do? Pictures I’ve seen online do not look this bad!

Sorry this is happening to your hen. How is she doing now? You’re off to a good start treating, though. The next thing you need to do is get 400-600 mg of human calcium plus vitamin d3 and administer the pills to her. Just pull down her wattles and pop the pill into her mouth whole. Do this once per day until the prolapse resolves. Also keep any tissue exposed moist with something such as coconut oil, Vaseline, or ointment of some sort. You do not want that tissue to dry up and die.

Can you tell if the exposed tissue has been pecked at by other hens? That mutilation can cause a lot of bleeding and attract more pecking. In her condition I would keep her separated from the others until the prolapse recedes.

Also, do not try to force the tissue to stay in if it won’t. Whatever she is straining to get out will cause the tissue to keep falling out until any blockage is cleared.

Is there an egg in the tissue? Sometimes eggs can get stuck in the exposed tissue and that can be a real tough situation.

Here is a great article for treating prolapses by @azygous:

Keep her plenty hydrated and let us know how she does. Azygous may have some more helpful suggestions for treating her.

Can you get some photos after you have soaked her and cleaned her up a bit?

It can be hard to tell how severe a prolapse is at this initial stage.

Can you feel the exposed tissue, does it feel like there's an egg or mass in any of it?

I agree, it's extremely important to get the Calcium into her ASAP. Best is Calcium Citrate+D3, but TUMS will work if you don't have that.
