Is this a record for a Duck? 4 eggs today!!!!

I have Pekins too and I have 5 hens. We collect eggs 3 times a day. Two times in the past week we have found 6 eggs in the pen. The eggs are either in their two nest boxes or laying right out by their feed and water. Not anywhere near the bedding area. We turn over the bed material daily also so there is absolutely no chance one is being hidden then magically reappearing.

Everyone has always told me one egg per day.

Normally we get four a day.

Someone is definately laying a bonus egg for us.

Occasionally you'll get a bird that will lay in a bit less than the normal number of hours. I have had birds that laid on a 21 hour cycle -- an egg about every 21 hours, at least for a few weeks of spring.

I did have TWO quail lay 2 eggs within a 24 hour period this week. That is not normal. However, I got up in the a.m. & had two eggs. This is very unusual. That night I had 3 eggs (3 girls in that pen). These were fresh eggs. The girls are in an indoor 4x4 pen and the eggs were not hidden. These were most definitely laid within a 24 hour period -- actually must have been in a bit less than that, even.

Their lights were on a bit long for a couple of days in a row, so it may have triggered them to speed up production...

What Rozzie said! Occassionally a hen (chicken or duck) will lay 2 eggs in a 24 hour period. This is generally followed by a day off. Normally the cycle requires 24 hours between eggs. Just think of the money you could have made selling hatching eggs from a duck that lays 4 eggs a day. All the commercial breeders would be after her get.
