If he has not started crowing yet you can also consider the contraceptive implant. It has a higher success rate for younger cockerels especially if they have not started crowing. It's worked great on my cockerel. The downsides are the costs and he will become sterile. It would also be harder to rehome him later down the track because a lot of people take in roosters for meat and they are no longer considered safe to eat if they have been given the implant.
