Is this a rooster?

Hi everyone! We have a Buff Orpington chick that is around 3 weeks old that was supposed to be a hen but now we’re wondering if it is actually a rooster. What do you think?

Not a buff Orp. It is likely a Cornish X. It is male, and you will have to process it if it is in fact a meat bird.

I do hope not. If you were expecting a hen, you might not feel up to processing. Understandably.

That isn't a Buff Orpington. And yes, it's a cockerel.

Thanks- we got 4 chicks from Tractor Supply and they were supposed to be all hens and all layers.

That is a Cornish cross. Wait till it’s older to know if it’s a hen or rooster and with the right care you can actually keep a Cornish X. My last Cornish X hen had a giant comb very young and was a hen and she lived over 2 years.
