Is this a rooster?

May be a silly question, but I've only had chickens for a year, so bear with me. I recently added two "pullets" to my flock, but one of them seems to be getting HUGE and has even grabbed its sister by the nape of her neck and appeared to mount her! Looking at its comb and wattles, I'm wondering if I have a rooster. If so, I may have to find a friendly home for it.

First, it does appear to be a rooster. Second, where did you get these "pullets"? That bird appears to be a meat bird. Can you post some other pics that show the whole body?

Well, my student gave me the birds after she hatched them. What exactly is a "meat bird"? Bred for meat? One of them has serious leg problems and it has only gotten worse. Is that a characteristic? As for keeping the roo, he is kind of fun to have roaming the yard. He's so skittish of me, though! His big feet knock everything over as he runs away.

is a rooster. and i agree with marans.. That. looks like a broiler (Cornish X with plymouth rock. aka.. KFC chickens), and yes. if they live longer then 8 weeks i believe. they will go down on their legs due to the weight. Their bred to grow fast. get lots of meat. and be butchered.

Do a search for other posts. Some people on this board have successfully kepts cornish crosses as pets. There is some hope.
