Is this a scaly leg mites?

I would like to treat it but I don't know if its scaly leg mites
After searching few images of it on google it's not scaly?
It's just gunky
Our chicken likes to play and use its feet a lot on sand or muddy area to dig up stuff...
Can u you help me?

It certainly looks like scaly leg mites to me. But it's hard to see well on my phone.

If you think it might just be mud, though, you can just wash her legs off with just water and find out easily enough.

Can you please wash her feet & legs in a bucket of warm soapy water before taking another photo? Maybe then we'll be able to tell if all that gunk is mud or not! Thanks!

I agree with everyone here, wash off her feet and legs. Her toenails need trimming, dont cut into the "quick" or it'll bleed and cause pain.

Dish soap? Isn't it bad for them?

I can't see the scales looks like mud balls.

Soak the legs for 15-20 minutes in a pan or bucket of warm soapy water with Dawn or similar mild soap. Try to rub off the legs, and when dry take another picture. What is your coop and run looking like? It might be dirt or mud, or there could be burning from dermatitis.

How do I treat it
I have looked around and one blog post said not to use petroleum jelly and the other post said to use it

I only have petroleum jelly right now can I use it??
