I have heard that females are louder than male ducks. I have two ducklings and I am unsure about the sex but my little magpie, Jellybean, has started a little honk with her squeak while my Pekin has not. By the way, Jellybean does NOT shut up, EVER. I love it but because females are louder and a more frequent quacker is this a sign of her being a female and the quiet one a male??

Thanks for any opinions in advance.

How old are they, you can sex them easily at a few weeks when the females start to get a little honk or quack and the males have a raspy squeek.

Honking is usually a sign that the duck is a female. But different females start at different ages, and some never honk--they just go straight into loud quacking. Usually by four weeks it becomes clear--some will be quacking loudly and others will be whisper/rasping. If your ducks are younger than that, the one that is honking is almost certainly a girl and the other one could be a girl or a boy.

my females mature quicker than the males do

and if you have grey colored ducks(mallard) the males feather just above the tail will be black and the females will have the laced pattern!

Thanks ya'll. I got to thinking about it but thought oh great this is going to sound stupid. I had to ask though! I guess I will wait on my other duckling. I have a feeling it is a boy, don't know why but I do.

Goat_Walker, are you kidding me??? You stole my name!
