Is this an ameraucana??

If you look at egg laying history the white shell just came about really in the last 70-years or so, before that, they were brown or shades thereof. I think the real question should be why aren't they ALL the same color all the way through?
As for your question. I am sorry, that is all I have to offer. Good luck.

Sure, when the weather is a bit warmer.

No way I'm getting rid of these. The eggs are actually very good looking. I'm considering trying to see if I can get a line laying nothing but these. I now wish I hadn't had the roo that parented these hens, over for dinner one night.

I would also love a pink egg laying chicken.

My kids would love it!

I thought I should mention, I inquired on the genetics forum of the other site and no one had a good answer for the pink egg shell. It seems the best we could conclude is that there are egg shell color genes that have yet to be identified. It seems quite clear though that blue and white are not the only shell colors.

Bingo. I think you hit the nail on the head, Steve.

I too would be interested in your pink eggers down the road. I said it before and I will repeat it again, variety is the spice of life.
Look now, you have the makings of the next most popular line of chickens

Have a good one and I am going to keep you in mind for some eggs.

BTW, I am from your neck of the woods, I grew up in Erie County.
