Newbie here. Just got this egg with blood on the shell. I checked the barred rock that was hanging out in the coop when the egg was collected and she does have some blood around her vent, but from looking at pictures online I don't think she has a prolapse. There's no one here right now to help me get a picture to share though. The feathers around her butt are clean and other than the dried looking blood there's no poop or dirt around her vent. She's acting normal. Any guidandce?

Is she a new layer? It's fairly common in newer layers and older layers. Sometimes they just break a blood vessel. It's good you already checked her and there's no prolapse. She should heal and be just fine. The egg is fine to eat, too, you might just want to clean the blood off first.

Yes she's only been laying for 2 or so weeks. Thank you so much! I will keep checking her to be sure but I feel better now.

Same chicken, different day. No more bloody eggs, but today I found her squeezing into a corner of the nesting box with her back to everyone while 3 other hens pecked furiously at her. I took her out and thought maybe she's hurt or something, maybe I should separate her. Her head was droopy. I start walking toward the house and she lays her egg on me and starts looking around. So I thought I'll put her back in the run and see. I sat her down and she just walked off like normal and nobody seems to be messing with her. I'm perplexed by this bird?! Is she probably just the weaker one and so they're all being mean to her? Been about half hour and no pecking anymore.

it's weird for hens to "peck furiously" at a hen that is laying. Did you inspect her for any injuries? If they see blood they will attack her. is she new to this flock? How was she introduced? I would bring her in, put her in ICU and ensure she is eating, drinking & pooing & laying normally. for a day or two. Then, integrate her slowly.
