Is this an injury?

I noticed a black spot on our gold star's end of her comb today. It looks like it could be dried blood, and it could be an injury from pecking, because she is new to our flock (but not the smallest). She is only 3 months old, and my phone takes terrible photos, so I know it's hard to see, but if you zoom in please have a look at the very end of her comb. (Nearest tip of beak)

Can anyone tell me what is going on?

It is hard to tell from your photo what the black looks like. Is it like this:

I believe my hen in this photo has fowl pox. I've just been looking for info on pox - it seems to happen during warm weather and Mosquitos.

No, I mean the black blob at the very end of the comb, almost looks like it's in the center edge of the beak.. Here is a close up, it's in the center. It looks similar to a human scab.

About your photo.. I see one spot, I was reading about pox today as well after I saw my chickens spot. Mine is different than yours, and yours does look similar to pictures I saw today of pox. I'm sorry.. What an awful thing. I read it lasts for weeks, and spreads through the flock. Not sure if it is fatal, but it didn't sound like it. It just looks really bad, and I would feel bad for my chickens if they got it. Scary that it comes from Mosquitos. I live in Wisconsin, those d*#n things are everywhere right now. It's maddening, almost all creatures here on earth have a purpose, and place on the food chain.. Except Mosquitos and ticks... They spread so many awful illnesses and diseases, for humans too.

Anyways, your pretty bird looks like it has the start of small pox, would it be too late to quarantine that one so it doesn't spread I wunder....?

I read there is no cure, but I sure would give my flock extra vitamins, electrolytes, and probiotics to keep them as strong as I could while going through pox.

I understand it's hard to tell. I only have an iPhone and an iPad to take pictures, and I find both to take awful pictures. Sometimes I wish I would have chose a different type of phone. But anyways, thanks for the info. I think it must be an injury too, as it just appeared all of a sudden.

If in fact it's her beak, watch her when she eats if she has problems picking up food and being able to grasp it. If she drops the food or cant pick it up, it's a beak injury for sure. You would have to make a liquidy feed mash in a bowl for her to eat until her beak heals/regrows.
