Is this an owl?

Went to YouTube to hear owl sounds and couldn't find anything. Only reason I ask if it's an owl is because I had a Great Horned Owl hooting right next to my window a few nights ago. That sound was for sure an owl, and there were more than one. My neighbor says he sees them all the time. I haven't yet seen one.

Hi Richard,
It was hard to clearly hear the bird from that distance. It sounded a bit harsher than say a mourning dove but I am reluctant to say it was a Great Horned Owl. Although we have Great Horned Owls across the US year round, it is rare to hear them during the day. I am guessing by the tree shadows in your video that is sometime mid-day. You may hear them early morning or dusk but mostly at night. This is true for most owls. However, during mating season anything goes! Did it sound similar to what you heard a few nights ago? What part of the country do you live? Here is a link to Cornell Labs. They are my go-to site when my guide books can't help me.

Crank up the volume! lol

Yes, it was during the day. No, it doesn't sound like what I heard a few nights ago. That sound was definitely an owl hooting. I hear the sounds (the ones on the video) throughout the day from time to time.

I'm in Central Oregon. Trying to research what's around here. I don't see many birds that could make that sound, though.

I can't hear it and had volume all the way up :( it is breeding season but owls teach and hunt at night so doubt it is an owl...I feel for you tho...we've had hawks teaching young to hunt right on my property line and yard for 2 weeks now...nerve wracking

Hope they are teaching them to hunt rodents. :D

I have 3 hawk nests within a 1/2 block radius, so I feel for ya. I posted some pics of one fledgling on the pigeon BB thread.
