not sure. I always leave feed for my ducks. I guess you could pull the feed at night but still leave greens in water.

All right, I'm confused. I have 6-week-old Pekins who are getting regular chick starter. And 15-week-old male & female Khakis who, along with the adult Khakis and adult geese, get 15% layer pellets. Though they mostly eat the stuff they find in the yard all day.

Why no starter for ducklings? Why no layer pellets for boy ducklings?

Layer pellets have more calcium in it than boys need.

I feed my ducks chick starter and then I add more niacin.

When they are older I give my ducks game bird feed. A dish of oyster shells is left out for the laying ducks.

I only feed my ducks, waterfowl food. Its hard to find but its made for ducks and geese specifically. I, like Wifezilla, always add niacin to their water because they really need it. Greens are the best you can feed them and you shouldn't have to feed alot of duck food (or chicken food) if you have them outside where they can forage.

Remember though, if you're going to feed them greens, they also need grit for their gizzards.

Angel wing can be fixed, as long as they don't have all their adult plumage yet.

Wow, that's more than I could do for my ducks & geese. Game bird feed and Flock Raiser are more expensive than chick starter. If I could only feed it to the ducklings I might go ahead & serve it. But I have a gang of bantams who cannot be contained, they spend their days flying in & out of everyone's pens, and they adore those feeds more than any other. They gobble up at least half of what I set out for the ducks.

Right now I have 2 6-week-old Pekins who still stay in the pen, I give them small amounts of chick starter a few times a day. Then there are 4 15-week-old Khakis, 2 males & 2 females, who spend most of their days roaming the yard eating everything. They eat layer pellets out of the dishes in the goose pens, along with the geese & the adult Khakis. All the adult waterfowl spend their days eating whatever in the yard.

I never thought of adding niacin to their water. They do have a water dish in their pens, and seem to use it more for blowing out their beak boogers than drinking. They drink out of their pool & puddles too.

I hope I'm not doing them a disservice, but everyone seems to be doing all right, growing properly & laying eggs...
