Hello, first time chicken owner here. Our chicks are Buff Orpington's and they are 7 weeks old. They moved out of the brooder and into their brand new coop with enclosed run on Sunday. So they have been outside for 6 days now. I have noticed this area of redness of several of the chicks. Is this a normal part of their growing or this an infection of some sort? I know that the face getting redder is normal for their breed. I guess I am just checking to see if that should be happening yet.

The chicks have medicated chick starter for feed. They also have grit mixed in with their feed. I put apple cider vinegar in their water.

Many types of chicken get red combs, wattles and faces as they approach maturity.
Sometimes they get pale again if they later stop laying for some reason (eg winter, going broody, molting etc. ).
My sense is that is different by individual.

Hi, i think the grits should not be mixed in with the feed, but kept in a separate bowl so they can take some at choice which they will do as needed. And Your poult is pretty. 😀
Lol grits… I mean grit

Well at 10 and a half weeks and first time chicken mom of these buxom buffys you can see my red face worries here! https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/red-beak-face-area.1599044/page-2
Its good to see a buffy newbie also worried... I'm harassing these lovely knowledgeable people. Where do you live?

Had the same concern with my girls, especially since it started around the eye. Totally normal though. They actually flush red when they're excited; it's super cute!🥰
