This time on our chicken-go-round, we have started with day old chicks on April 15. So, they are 7 weeks old now. We started noticing two or three of our birds have this curved beak going on. Is this normal for a Olive egger/ameuricana/blackcopper? Is something wrong?

thanks! :)

Looks normal for a Vulture! Just what kind of birds are you raising there?

Just kidding, I don't see anything in the picture. If they keep their mouths open like that a lot it probably means they are hot/thirsty.

The beak is actually closed at the tip.

Ah, so maybe the bottom beak is too long or something huh? I guess as long as the bird can eat and drink okay then there is little reason to worry about it, but if it can't then maybe the bottom will need trimmed so it can close properly.

Thanks :). We were wondering if that's what we had to do. I'm freaked out in having to do that. Is it hard to do?

I have no idea, it's one of those things I hope I don't have to do, like trimming spurs. :) But if you gotta do it, just make sure you do your research and maybe create a new thread if you have questions that don't get answered here. If you lookup "scissor beak" or "crossed beak" you'll probably find a lot of people talking about trimming beaks (that's where I learned of the topic).
