Hey everyone,
My Buff Orpington rooster suddenly got ill around 3 days ago. He was acting normal the night before and then became lethargic and decreasing in appetite. Now 3 days later, he has stopped eating and still acts lethargic but will still walk, move around, flap his wings etc… he also seems like he is struggling to breathe, gasping occasionally and slight gurgling/rattling sounds. His face is not swollen, he is drinking, poop is yellowish and watery, no mites or lice, none of the other chicks or chickens are experiencing these symptoms, just him. I also noticed a tiny bit of redness or purpleness on the side of his legs, not a lot tho. I treated the entire flock with corid just in case it was early signs of coccidiosis however no improvements. Please note that my flock does have MG disease. Any advice would be appreciated. The Bird flu has been making me paranoid. Thanks!

I don't know symptoms of bird flu, sorry.
Is his comb changing colors?
Nope, comb and wattles are still red. I would think that he and many others would be dead if it was bird flu though. I have no idea how he became this sick out of nowhere especially since no one else has the symptoms. Is there anything I can do to help him? Thanks

I'm not sure, I really wouldn't worry about bird flu . The redness on his legs is normal for roos.
So far, the symptoms are lethargy and difficulty breathing?
Any mucus or weeping?
What's his normal diet? Anything he could have found that is toxic or moldy?
Has he ever been wormed?
Have you given him a direct dose of corid?

i think if it was bird flu you would have had some die at this point. a lady i know has a hatching buisness and last she lost all 300 of the birds in a week

Yes, he is experiencing lethargy and some difficulty breathing and not eating much. He’ll have random small bursts of energy. I think he may have eaten a mushroom in our backyard. We had a similar case where a chick ate a couple of those and died the next day. Perhaps it’s that? He couldn’t have gotten something moldly, highly unlikely. We haven’t wormed him yet because he’s still young and spends majority of the time indoors. He wasn’t exhibiting signs of worms or parasites either. Are there any worms that could cause this? And the corid is oral treatment for 7 days.

This is the colouration on his legs and how his face looks.

Thats awful… it must have been really devastating for her ☹️. I really hope my boy recovers and no one else gets hit with a massive outbreak. It horrible

Ok, so that is not a rooster like I was picturing. He's just a cockerel chick.
It's very likely coccidiosis at this point though it very well could be something else.
I would give him a direct dose of corid.
