Is this bumble foot?

All three chicken feet I've treated for Bumble Foot had the swelling between the toes - looked like a marble under the skin between the toes.

All three feet fully recovered and never had a reoccurence. For treatment:

1. Soak foot in warm Epsom salt water for several minutes.

2. Peel off black scab on bottom of foot.

3. Lance deep into the foot pad over scab area.

4. Continue soaking.

5. Begin prodding in pad area, using tweezers, and gently squeezing in an effort to get out any puss and more importantly to find the hard core. It may look like a zit popping out or in the ones that I removed, it looked exactly like a hard, dry, kernel of corn. You may not think it's there. Just keep resoaking and repeating process. When I am prodding around in lanced area I also wash with Betadine in wound. Each time I thought there must not be a core but after 1/2 hour sometimes I did eventually get it to pop out. In one foot, there were three of them. I got two out through the bottom but I couldn't get one that was swollen between the toes. I could even feel the hard core through the skin between her toes. In that case, I made a small incision on top of foot and it popped right out.

6. Once you get the core out, resoak and then wash with Betadine. Fill the hole with Neosporin. Wrap with vet wrap and put the chicken where it can't walk around in dirt, like a hutch or cage.

7. I gave them a shot of penicillin for three days as well.

8. The next/second day I remove the wrap and clean the foot with Betadine but in all three cases, the wound had healed over. I applied more Neosporin and rewrapped. On the third day, I remove wrap and let the chicken go free. In all three cases, the wound had completely healed and did not have a reoccurence in any foot treated.

Best of luck, it's the most disgusting thing to have to do. I did find that the birds will lay calmly and quiet on their sides while you operate if you put a towel over their heads so they can't see.
