In need of some help. Yesterday morning little Ruthie (a week old EE) was limping around the brooder. I did a quick check and found impacted poo on the bottom. So I brought her in and soaked it in some warm water and it came dislodged and the foot looked clean, and she was walking fine. So I placed her back in the brooder and checked on her an hour later. She was limping again, and was being bullied by the other chicks. So back in she came. I checked the bottom of the foot again and found no wound, however it was clearly swollen and reddish; along with toe curling. We did a Epsom soak, sprayed Vetericyn and splinted with tape. She was lethargic, so I gave electrolytes and offered some scrambled egg. She did perk up a bit, but I honestly didn't expect her to make it though the night. Well she is a fighter and is still going strong. I soaked twice today with Epsom and have been splinting and spraying with Vetericyn. It is still swollen, red and warm to the touch. She does hobble around on it but it clearly hurts. I am unsure if it is bumblefoot and thinking gout, or sprain. She is eating, drinking and defecating fine. She only chirps loud when I leave the room.🤦‍♀️ She is currently watching Youtube on my phone and loving it.🙃 Anyway, if anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it. 161226383_163706788825024_9066599892284336001_n.jpg 161706965_189666445993094_7628945016908167713_n.jpg 161886460_229462605590180_8580245321671685786_n.jpg

It is possible that she injured her foot or got a small cut in the brooder, or the poo could have irritated it. I would give some chick vitamins with riboflavin (B2) daily. Human B complex can also be used instead, 1/4 tablet daily, crushed into a spoonful of water and fed. I would probably leave the foot uncovered.

I started poly-vi-sol without Iron this morning. She was the smallest when I brought her home on Saturday, and hasn't grown much. She is much more active today, so I am hopeful. Thank you for your reply.

I don't think it is bumblefoot. I think it may be a broken toe, or sprain. It looks like the swelling and reddness has gone down. I decided not to splint it last night and she is running around and is very happy and content. She still raises it every now and then, but over all she is doing very well. Thank you so much for your help.
