Is this bumblefoot?

This medium-sized, otherwise healthy hen is 16 months old. A couple of days ago I noticed what looks like an abscess on her foot. My only doubts about bumblefoot are that it's on the top rather than the bottom/pad of the foot and she's still not limping or showing any signs of distress. Is it bumblefoot? In any case, should I try to surgically remove it?

It certainly does look like bumblefoot. It can sometimes appear on the top just as your hens has.

This foot might be showing the beginning signs of scaly leg mites too.
One of these type sprays, if used daily for a few days, will put an end to scaly leg mites.

That does look like bumblefoot.
