Brought home 8 chicks, 7 hatched this week. The smallest (supposed to be a black Sumatra) did not look great when we got her home. She had been backed into a corner, standing completely erect (like a runner duck!) and seemed weak. We kept her separate for awhile and then I put her in with the rest of the chicks. She’s active now. Eating and drinking, running around, foraging, etc. Her breathing is very heavy though. And you can see the area between her eye and nostrils puff out and back in as she breaths. It’s been around 10 hours since we brought her home. She’s very chill when held, but she does scatter when you go to pick her up. She seems to be acting completely normal except for the heavy breathing.

It does not want to let me upload a video.
she’s super active though. I’m wondering if maybe it’s just because she’s so tiny that her breathing looks a lot more obvious than the others.

She’s totally fine. She’s picking on others now :tongue

Omg I’ve never seen this before. U did correct her behavior and stop her from doing this right? Assuming you didn’t just while recording this to show what she was up to. I’m curious is she still doing this or did it stop? And did she out grow the bullying phase? I saw a couple other people saying their chicks were doing this but more so of a quick pecking not completely pulling the other poor chick around by it’s foot.

Surrpsed the video never got a reaction a month ago. glad I watched it now, I thought it was quite entertaining, I thought the bullying had stopped but it hadn't even begun till then lmao.

I'm also amused you had to ask the same thing by wording it differently 3 times B-chickle.

I think the chick was looking for worms and thought it had found one but yeah he was properly jerking on those feet. Surprised he had the strength in him, wouldn't be surprised if he had turned into a male by now.

Sorry maybe should of been little more clear with what exactly I was asking but then I wouldn’t of brought so much amusement to ur evening. First question I meant after the video was all said and done and she was spending time with the chicks and the other one went to continue on with this did she either separate the chick to ensure it stopped harassing its fellow flock mates whole lives or some other kind of approach. Question number 2.., was the said chick still currently snatching up chicks by their toes if not was it something it just stopped doing on its own or from her intervening. And last but not least... is she or he still bullying just in other ways. Did they graduate from toe pulling to pecking ass feathers or what have you lol Now that I got that out of the way..I was also wondering if it ended up being a rooster.

Yes! It didn’t take too long for her to stop, thankfully!
