Is this chick plain stupid?

I have a little Polish Chamois chick that hatched on Tuesday, the only one out of 6 eggs. Yesterday I found it lying under the electric hen. I held it and found the crop was empty, so I syringed some food into her. I did this again later that night (The chick would have been 4 days old, so the yolk reserves would have been used up) Today I found that it had an empty crop again. After feeding her, she is cheep cheep cheeping loudly. Is this just a stupid chick, and will it learn to eat? She is drinking, but no amount of tapping on the feeder is making her get the idea. I even ground some of the chick crumbs finer with no luck. The others soon ate it though.

I checked the vent, and it was a bit dirty, so I cleaned it up. Nothing bloody looking, but maybe pasty but?

Any help would be great.

Since it is drinking you can add sugar to the water for carbos.
Some Gatoraide might be good, I've used that.
Keep doing what your doing, it should figure it out.

Since you only have one, there is no competition or mimicry.

Thanks! It is in with 5 other chicks, it is just that I only got that one to hatch out of 6 eggs I bought. Sorry, I didn`t make that clear.

I hope it works it out soon. I really want one of these.

I hope your chick is doing good. I had one that hatched out a couple of weeks ago and she would not eat. (not even after day 4). Since she had no momma to show her how to eat, what I did was boil an egg, mash it up and put it in there with her. That was more than she could resist and she started pecking out of curiosity. Then she realized, hey that tastes good, and went to town on it.
The next time I fed her egg, I sprinkled the starter feed over top, as if I were seasoning it. After that, she ate just fine. I think because she hatched out 4 days before the rest and was all alone she just did not know how to eat. Just like with babies you have to teach them sometimes.

I do remember. I am just not tough enough for all this. I am enjoying the chicks I have, but it is certainly a one off experience for me.

I'm sorry you lost your baby. I lost one from my very first batch, I know it's hard, especially when it's a breed you were hoping to really have. I'm not brave enough to hatch my own yet... so feed store it is, for me. Although I did just find a lady who breeds and I think I'm going to get a handful more... they are rather addicting. Again, I'm sorry.
