I've had my 7 girls for over a year and a half. They molted last year, so I'm not surprised to see them losing feathers at this time of year, however I have a few concerns this time around:
I've had my 7 girls for over a year and a half. They molted last year, so I'm not surprised to see them losing feathers at this time of year, however I have a few concerns this time around:
- Only this one chicken is losing feathers - none of the others are currently molting.
- She has lost A LOT of feathers.
- Her skin is red in some exposed areas.
- She appears to be shivering sometimes.
- I have not switched to a new food or bedding recently.
- None of them appear to have ticks/fleas/mites.
To me it looks like a full blown molt plus feather pecking/plucking on her back. I am reluctant to remove a bird from the flock because of reintroduction problems, but if she were mine I would remove her until she has refeathered.
