Is this chickweed?

I’m actu

I’m actually letting a bunch of it go to seed now so I can harvest for next year. I have this idea of growing a weed garden for my chickens next year. I don’t have the space mapped out to do it this year (there’s currently potatoes and pumpkin where I would grow it), but next year for sure!
That's a wonderful idea! I want to do the same, but I always forget what the "good weeds" look like, so I'm going to take pics this year as I grow them out so I can be sure they reseed next year. The Chickweed is growing really well, I think I probably would have done better direct seeding it. It's hard when you don't know how well seeds will germinate though, and so I kept them inside to baby them.

Where I am chickweed comes up in the early spring, disappears for the summer then comes back again in the fall. Chickweed grows best with lots of organic matter and partial shade.

Weeds can be known by more than one name. What I call Lamb's Quarter, a friend calls Pigweed.
pigweed is amaranth and lambs quarter is a totally different plant but when in seed could look similar to pigweed. very different leaves though if you look close.

- from someone who pulled out both those plants from a flower farm all last summer ;)
