One of my nine week old chicks is lethargic, puffy, and not eating. This is a photo of her last poop. Is this a cocci oocyte?

Yes, I would treat for coccidiosis with Corid right away. Get it at your local feed store in the cattle section. Many chicks don’t have bloody or pink/orange poops with cocci, but that one looks pretty suspicious.

Corid dosage is 1.5 tsp of the Corid powder or 2 tsp of the liquid Corid per gallon of water for 7 days. Change it daily. Keep your bedding dry and add new as needed. Treat all chicks at once, and make sure they drink well or you will need to give it with a dropped.

It won’t hurt the hens, but hopefully, they have built up tolerance to coccidia.[/QUOTE

Yes, these particular hens are more less indestructible, Have fought off a possum successfully, one is seven years old and still laying every other day. I am asking if they can incidentally get the medicine just to make it a little bit easier on myself. Will we still be able to eat eggs?

Thank you so much for your help, Eggcessive!

There is no egg withdrawal time with Corid. Is is not an antibiotic, but a thiamine inhibitor. When they are finished with Corid, you can give them all some vitamins with probiotics. Vitamins With Lactobacillus by Rooster Booster is a brand I have used. I think one of my 7 year old EE’s lays an egg now and then, but the most of the 4-7 year olds are loafers, LOL.

OK, can someone please give me instructions for the drop method for the chick that is sick? I’m thinking she will not be drinking a lot on her own tonight since it is nearing sundown
